Of all the days celebrated throughout the year I have to admit I didn’t have this one on the calendar, but I think it is perfect since spring just arrived, and I think we all need an excuse to treat ourselves to a new fragrance!
Today I wanted to feature one of my current fragrance favorites from Elizabeth and James – a fragrance brand from legendary sisters Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen.
A few of the many ways to wear Elizabeth and James Nirvana
White or Black?
Two versions of Nirvana, are available for your sensory pleasure:
- Nirvana Black is described as “an addictive blend of alluring violet, sensual sandalwood, and rich vanilla that strike the perfect balance between masculine and feminine.”
- Nirvana White is described as a “captivating blend of delicate peony, chic muguet, and tender musk for a feminine scent with dark sophistication.”

Eau the Options:
Originally offered in simply eau de parfum, the brand has expanded the possibilities and offering Nirvana in several different formulations (see the bottom of this post for a list). Let’s take a look at a few of the ways I’ve experienced Nirvana:
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Eau de Parfume
The brands original release of the fragrance was the gorgeous Elizabeth and James Nirvana Eau de Parfum available in two sizes. The packaging is substantial and elegant – a beautiful mix between simple and elegant. The texture on the outside of the packaging looks like miniature delicate studding to give it a modern flair. The gold detailing on the sides keeps it luxurious. The 1.7 oz. fits into my hand so application is easy, although if you have smaller hands it may be a little harder for you to grasp because of the rectangular shape.
Review: The sent of Elizabeth and James Nirvana White is my favorite of the two. Although I am drawn to more of a masculine mix for women, there is just something that I’ve been loving about this peony sensation over the last few months, which I could also attribute to my desire for spring to arrive! After first application the peony is the most strong but after it settles down it is a warm and comforting feminine scent that lasts all day long on my skin with slight fading by the end of the day. Because I can be more liberal with the eau de parfum spray I like that the scent stays on my clothing and lasts for a very long time – think jackets, blazers, etc. Overall the scent to me feels like a warm hug from my best friend – feminine and comforting.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Perfume Rollerball
The Elizabeth and James Rollerball version of the fragrance is an excellent option if you want to try out the fragrances and aren’t sure which one is for you! It is also a great way to travel with one of your favorites so you can keep your precious eau de parfum on your vanity at home. The packaging is sleek and looks and feels like it may be a thick glass, so it feels substantial, but also more simplified with only a hint of the studding texture on the bottom of the packaging (as seen above).
Review: I have not experienced Nirvana Black in the eau de parfum spray, so my review may be a little narrow in that respect. With the rollerball I feel I need to be quite liberal to ensure I get enough product on the skin to experience the fragrance, which is why the spray may be a more enveloping way to experience a fragrance from the start. That said, the mix of feminine and masculine in this scent is a beautiful thing – if you are leaning toward experimenting with more masculine fragrances this is an excellent one to begin with because of the addition of vanilla keeps the scent sweet enough for your liking and the mixture of violet and sandalwood give it a more earthy scent that is not at all overwhelming. This one doesn’t last on my skin as long as the Nirvana White, mostly because I feel like it melds with my scent more easily, which means it is also one of those fragrances that you wear and kind of forget you’re wearing, which is a good thing (rather than a fragrance that keeps knocking all day long, reminding you she’s there if you know what I mean!). In my opinion it is about 85% feminine and 15% masculine which is a nice nod into unisex fragrances if you want to begin your experience with them.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Solid Perfume
One of the brand’s recent concoctions for spring is the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Solid Perfume. The compacts are absolutely gorgeous and feel luxurious in the hand. In keeping with the design of the eau de parfum, these compacts are white and black with gold accents. The compact easily fits into the palm of my hand and has a magnetic closure that snaps tight so it does not dry out.
The compacts come tucked inside a velvet pouch to keep the packaging pristine!
Review: The scent compared to the eau de parfum is the same, although a little softer due to the solid formulation, however I have noticed if I am liberal with application as the formula warms up into my skin the scent intensifies. It may depend on your skin type, but the solid doesn’t last quite as long on me as the eau de parfum or rollerball. That said, I can’t get over the gorgeousness of the packaging and I love to carry this in my handbag because it is beautiful to pull out and excellent when I feel like I need a little pretty pick-me-up. This would also make a perfect gift for anyone who already owns the eau de parfum!
Overall, I find the Elizabeth and James Nirvana fragrances beautiful quality, the packaging is unique and definitely vanity-worthy, and I love all of the many options you can select from if you want to experience this fragrance. I am definitely going to have Nirvana White on rotation this spring!
